Hi @TC183

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation—it's genuinely frustrating when your laptop won’t power on and shows a CMOS checksum error. You deserve a clear path to recovery, and I’ll walk you through it step by step.

What the CMOS Checksum Error Means

This error typically indicates that the BIOS settings have been corrupted or the CMOS battery has failed. On your HP 15-da1022nk, the CMOS battery is often a non-removable coin cell soldered directly to the motherboard, which is why you couldn’t find it.

Steps to Resolve the Issue

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the charger and try powering on.

Try BIOS Recovery

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but keep holding Windows + B for 10–15 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

Check Power Adapter and Port

  • Use a known working HP charger.
  • Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.
  • If the LED doesn’t light up, try charging from a different outlet.

External Display Test

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI.
  • If the external screen shows output, the internal display may be faulty.

Reseat RAM and Storage (if accessible)

  • If you're comfortable opening the back panel:
    • Remove and reinsert the RAM module(s).
    • Disconnect and reconnect the SSD/HDD.
  • This can help resolve boot and checksum errors caused by loose connections.

BIOS Update via USB (if recovery screen appears)

Let me know how the system responds after trying these steps. If it powers on or shows signs of recovery, I’ll guide you through the next steps to stabilize it.
