Hello, for months my desktop has been telling me vcl120.bpl needs to be reinstalled. I click okay three times and it goes away. How can I reinstall this? How did I uninstall it to begin with?

 Hi @ChildOfTheKing2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about   Visual Component Library  issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

The file vcl120.bpl is part of the Visual Component Library that comes with certain applications built using Embarcadero/Delphi or C++ Builder. If it’s missing or corrupted, programs that rely on it will throw that error.

To help you better, could you let me know:

  • Which application shows this error when you start your computer?
  • Did you recently uninstall or update any software before this issue began?
  • Are you using HP software or a third-party program when the message appears?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Check installed programs: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and see if any application related to Embarcadero, Delphi, or C++ Builder is listed. If so, try repairing or reinstalling it.
  2. Run System File Checker: Open Command Prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow. This will scan and repair missing or corrupted system files.
  3. Reinstall the affected application: If you know which program is triggering the error, reinstalling it should restore the missing library file.
  4. Check startup items: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, go to the Startup tab, and disable any suspicious or unknown entries to see if the error stops appearing.

It’s possible the file was removed during an uninstall or a cleanup utility, which is why the system keeps asking for it. Once we identify the exact program that needs it, reinstalling should resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
