Hello,

HP laptop (15-ef2008ca) suddenly won't open or run windows 11.  Blue screen says PC  did not start correctly.

Restart only loops it back around to same blue screen.

I've tried several of the advanced options, choices of restart etc, .. but just reloops to same blue screen.

On restart I get an HP symbol, then it says "Preparing automatic Repair,"  followed by,  "Diagnosing your PC," followed by same blue screen.

Please help.

@Homer250, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It looks like your HP Laptop 15-ef2008ca is stuck in a boot loop with Windows 11. Since advanced options haven't worked, let's try these steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Unplug the power adapter and remove any peripherals (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Reconnect the charger and power on the laptop.
If the issue persists, try booting into Safe Mode:

Boot into Safe Mode

  1. Turn on your laptop and force shut it down (press and hold power button until it turns off) when you see the Windows logo.
  2. Repeat this three times. On the fourth boot, Windows should enter Advanced Startup Recovery Mode.
  3. Go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  4. When prompted, press 4 or F4 to start in Safe Mode.

If Safe Mode works, try uninstalling any recent updates:

Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates

Run Startup Repair

If Safe Mode doesn’t work:

  1. Go to Advanced Options > Startup Repair and let Windows attempt to fix the issue.

Use System Restore

  1. Go to Advanced Options > System Restore and select a restore point before the issue started.

Check Disk for Errors

If the problem persists:

  1. Go to Advanced Options > Command Prompt
  2. Type the following and press Enter:
  3. chkdsk /f /r C:

(Replace C: with the actual Windows drive if different)

Reset Windows (Keep Files Option)

If none of the above steps work, you may need to reset Windows:

  • Go to Advanced Options > Reset This PC
  • Select Keep my files to avoid data loss.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
