Hi @Aplesiespi,

I understand you're asking if your HP Pavilion 16-inch af-0000 laptop can run directly on AC power without charging or affecting the battery. Let’s go through a few points to clarify how charging works on this model.

a. Understanding Charging Behavior

This laptop does not have a dedicated "bypass charging" or “AC-only mode” where it completely skips the battery and powers the system only from the adapter.

It uses a smart charging system that supplies power to the laptop while maintaining or charging the battery depending on its charge level.

b. Battery Charging Protection Features

When the battery reaches around 95–100%, the system slows or stops charging to prevent overcharging.

You can check if Battery Care/Adaptive Charging options are available in HP Command Center or BIOS settings under Power Management.

c. Check HP Power Management Settings

Open HP Command Center (if available).

Go to Power or Battery Settings.

Look for options like “Battery Health Manager,” “Maximize My Battery Lifespan,” or “Adaptive Battery Optimizer” and enable them to reduce constant charging.

d. BIOS Battery Health Manager (if available)

Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.

Navigate to Advanced > Power or Battery Health Manager.

You’ll typically see options like:

Let HP Manage My Battery

Maximize My Battery Health (keeps charge around 80–90%)

Select the second option if you want to reduce battery stress during plugged-in usage.

e. Using the Laptop While Plugged In

Even when the battery is full, the system will primarily use AC power to run the laptop and only use the battery when needed.

This means it won’t constantly "overcharge" the battery.

f. Tips to Reduce Battery Wear During Plugged-In Use

Keep the laptop plugged in during heavy tasks (gaming, editing, etc.) to avoid deep discharge cycles.

Avoid keeping the battery at 100% for long periods—use Battery Health settings to limit charging if supported.

Make sure the adapter is the original HP charger for stable power delivery.

I hope this helps.
