Hi @Suman3214

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing that—I'm sorry you're dealing with Microsoft Edge opening multiple tabs unexpectedly. That kind of behavior can be distracting and disruptive, especially when you're trying to focus on work.

Let's walk through a few steps to help restore calm and control to your browsing experience.

Steps to Stop Microsoft Edge from Opening Multiple Tabs Automatically

1. Disable Edge Startup Behavior

  • Open Microsoft Edge
  • Click the three dots in the top-right corner > Settings
  • Go to Start, home, and new tabs
  • Under When Edge starts, select:
    • Open a new tab or
    • Continue where you left off
  • Remove any listed pages that may be triggering multiple tabs

2. Check Windows Startup Apps

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  • Go to the Startup tab
  • Disable any entries related to Edge, Bing, or unexpected web links

3. Scan for Browser Extensions

  • In Edge, go to Settings > Extensions
  • Disable all extensions temporarily
  • Restart Edge and observe behavior
  • Re-enable extensions one at a time to identify any causing tab duplication

4. Clear Edge Browsing Data

  • Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services
  • Scroll to Clear browsing data > Click Choose what to clear
  • Select Cached images and files, Cookies, and Site settings
  • Click Clear now

5. Reset Edge Settings (If Issue Persists)

  • Go to Settings > Reset settings
  • Click Restore settings to their default values
  • Confirm the reset—this will remove startup pages, extensions, and custom settings

Let me know if you'd like help checking for background scripts or scheduled tasks that might be triggering Edge. Once these steps are complete, your browser should behave normally again.
