When turning on my laptop I keep getting the error code 90B about the fan not working properly. Pressing enter does start the laptop but I'm concerned if I keep doing this it could create a problem. I've blown on all the two vents.

Can't seem to find a solution and HP aren't helping. It's probably 18 months old but it's hardly used.

Many Thanks

Lee

Hi @Lee1711,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you see an error code "90B" usually indicates that the cooling fan is not operating correctly. This could lead to overheating problems if not addressed. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices and unplug the AC adapter.
  • Remove the battery (if detachable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, and then turn the laptop on.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • HP notes that outdated BIOS firmware can trigger false fan errors.
  • Go to HP Support → Drivers & Downloads and install the latest BIOS update for your model
  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Restart and press F2 (or Esc → F2) to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Fan Test to confirm if the fan is failing.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to run the fan test and check for any error codes
  • Keep me posted with the test result.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
