I have an HP 14-ep series laptop and I'm facing an intermittent touchpad issue. The extreme-left edge of the touchpad sometimes stops responding to touch, while the rest of the touchpad continues to work normally.

The issue is inconsistent — sometimes the entire touchpad works perfectly, but after some time, the extreme-left edge may stop responding again. Restarting the laptop did not resolve the issue, and I also tried disabling and re-enabling the touchpad driver, but the problem still occurred.

I also ran the official HP touchpad hardware diagnostic, and the touchpad worked normally during the test. However, the issue can return later during normal use. Interestingly, the touchpad has also worked perfectly for extended periods without the problem returning.

What could be causing this intermittent, localised issue? Could it be related to the touchpad hardware, cable/connection, firmware, or Windows/driver software? Also, if the HP diagnostic passes while the problem is intermittent, can there still be a hardware fault?
