Hello HP Community,
I’m using an HP Envy x360 laptop, and recently I’ve encountered a frustrating issue with the touchpad. It randomly registers clicks or taps without any input from me. This happens even when I’m not touching the pad, and it interferes with normal usage.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Cleaned the touchpad thoroughly to remove any dust or debris.
- Checked for driver updates via HP Support Assistant and Windows Update.
- Restarted the laptop multiple times.
Unfortunately, none of these steps resolved the issue. The touchpad still behaves erratically, and it feels like phantom touches are being registered.
Has anyone faced a similar issue with the Envy x360? Any suggestions for troubleshooting or fixes would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @Aweda,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the HP ENVY x360 15-ey0000. We understand how disruptive phantom touchpad clicks can be, especially when they interfere with your workflow or navigation. Let’s try a few steps to help resolve it.
Troubleshooting Steps for Erratic Touchpad Behavior
1. Perform a Hard Reset
This clears temporary memory and forces Windows to reinitialize hardware.
Steps:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the AC adapter and all peripherals.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter and power on the laptop.
2. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
This checks for hardware faults in the touchpad.
Steps:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it on and press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 when the menu appears.
- Go to Component Tests > Mouse/Touchpad.
- Run the test and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers
Even if updates were checked, a clean reinstall may help.
Steps:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click the touchpad driver (e.g., Synaptics or HID-compliant touchpad) and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
- Alternatively, download the latest driver from HP:

4. Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Lower the sensitivity and disable tap-to-click if needed.
5. Check for External Interference
- Ensure no USB mouse or touchscreen gestures are interfering.
- Try disabling the touchscreen temporarily to isolate the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
