Some generation i7's overheat badly in laptops.
Get the dust bunnies out of the laptop.
Charge the battery fully before running any intensive applications. Your laptop will overheat if it has to both charge and run at turbo speed.
To mitigate the heat problem you should use a laptop cooler. It is my personal opinion that any gaming laptop, made by any OEM, should come with a warning that a laptop cooler should be used while gaming.
If not using the Omen game hub, in the Advanced Power Plan, set the percent processor utilization to %99 instead of %100 to prevent going into turbo. This can make a huge difference in temperature. Note that the OGM overrides the power plan settings.
