Hi HP Community,

I recently updated my HP Specter to the latest Windows version, and since then I’ve noticed the battery drains much faster than usual. Before the update, I was getting around 6–7 hours on regular use, but now it barely lasts 3–4 hours.

I’ve already tried:

  • Checking for background apps

  • Updating BIOS and drivers

  • Running HP Support Assistant diagnostics

But the issue still persists. Has anyone else faced this problem after the update? Any fixes or recommended settings I should try?

Thanks in advance!

@bflix, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Power Plan

Right-click the battery icon > Power Options.

Select Balanced or Power Saver.

Update HP Software

Open HP Support Assistant.

Make sure your Battery and HP Power Manager are up to date.

Disable Fast Startup

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does.

Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save.

Disable Startup Programs

Right-click the taskbar > Task Manager > Startup tab.

Disable unnecessary programs.

Run Battery Report

Open Command Prompt (Admin).

Type: powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery_report.html" and hit Enter.

Open the report at C:\battery_report.html to check for issues.

Check Battery Health

Open HP Support Assistant > Battery > Battery Health Check.

Reset BIOS

Restart your laptop, press F10 to enter BIOS.

Select Reset to Defaults, save and exit.

Reinstall Battery Drivers

Go to Device Manager > Batteries > right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall.

Restart your laptop to reinstall it.

Calibrate Battery

Charge to 100%, let it discharge completely, then charge it back to 100%.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
