@boeingco, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14, where the mouse cursor and desktop icons appear larger upon booting, returning to normal size only after a reboot. This problem has been reported by other users as well, particularly after updating to Windows 11 version 24H2.

Potential Causes:

The issue may be linked to display scaling settings or graphics driver compatibility problems introduced after the Windows 11 update. Similar scaling problems have been observed in other HP laptop models following the update.

Suggested Solutions:

Adjust Display Scaling Settings:

Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."

Ensure that the scaling is set to the recommended value (commonly 100% or 200%).

If it's already set correctly, try changing it to a different value and then reverting to the original setting to refresh the scaling.

Disable Fast Startup:

Open the Control Panel and navigate to "Power Options."

Click on "Choose what the power buttons do."

Select "Change settings that are currently unavailable."

Uncheck the box for "Turn on fast startup" and click "Save changes."

Disabling fast startup has been reported to resolve similar issues in some cases.

Update Graphics Drivers:

Visit the HP Support website and download the latest graphics drivers specific to your laptop model.

Alternatively, use the Device Manager to update the graphics driver:

Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager."

Expand "Display adapters," right-click on your graphics device, and choose "Update driver."

Select "Search automatically for updated driver software."

Check for Windows Updates:

Go to Settings > Windows Update and click on "Check for updates" to ensure your system has the latest patches and fixes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I found the following suggestion in a microsoft community post, and this fixed it for me. Hope this helps:

2. Manually resetting the cursor scheme

The system may have an abnormal cursor size due to a caching error that needs to be manually reset:

Open Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer.

In the Scheme drop-down menu, select “Windows Default (System Scheme)”.

Click Apply and restart your computer to see if it recovers.
