HP Privacy settings keeps popping up. I cannot access it, so I have to close it with task manager. The app is no longer available from the Microsoft Store. I did repair and reset and it still does not work. Do I uninstall it?

Hi @pdnRPH
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for the details — this is a known issue with the HP Privacy Settings app on some systems, especially after upgrading to Windows 11 or doing system updates.
What Does HP Privacy Settings Actually Do?
It's primarily meant for HP business laptops, allowing users to:
Toggle webcam/mic privacy settings
Manage privacy screen (on models with Sure View tech)
Your OMEN 30L desktop doesn’t need it at all — it was likely preinstalled or carried over from a previous image or utility bundle.
Yes, you may uninstall HP Privacy Settings, as it's not required for your system and is now deprecated. It’s safe and often necessary to remove it if it’s malfunctioning.
Recommended Action: Uninstall HP Privacy Settings
You can remove it cleanly using either:
Option 1: Use Windows Settings
Press Windows + I to open Settings
Go to Apps > Installed apps
Search for HP Privacy Settings
Click the ⋮ (three dots) > Uninstall
If it uninstalls successfully, you’re done.
Option 2: Use PowerShell (If It Won’t Uninstall Normally)
Press Windows + X > Windows Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin)
Paste this command:
- Get-AppxPackage *HPPrivacySettings* | Remove-AppxPackage
Press Enter.
This will force-remove the app for your user.
Let me know if the uninstall fails or if you want to remove it for all users — I can give a more advanced script if needed.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
Regards,
