Hello HP Community,
I'm facing a serious issue with my HP Victus laptop. The battery is stuck at 68% — it neither increases nor decreases, and the laptop shows "Plugged in, not charging." When I unplug the charger, the laptop shuts down instantly as if there's no battery power at all.
This issue started recently, and I’ve tried basic troubleshooting like checking power settings and doing a battery reset, but nothing has worked so far.
I also visited an HP service center, but they didn’t properly check my laptop. They just told me the battery needs to be replaced and quoted ₹18,000, which I feel is very steep and sounds like a scam, especially since no diagnostic was even done.
Is this a known issue with HP Victus laptops? Could this be a software or firmware problem, or is battery replacement really the only solution?
I’d really appreciate any help, advice, or experience from other users who may have faced something similar.
Thanks in advance!

@Vivekask4help, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Battery not recognized, not charging on HP Victus Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP Victus laptop's battery is stuck at 68% and shuts down immediately when unplugged, it indicates that the battery is not recognized or there are issues with the charging mechanism. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Troubleshooting Steps
Visual Inspections
- Inspect Battery Connectors:
- Check battery connectors for any signs of damage.
- Verify Proper Installation:
- Ensure the battery is installed correctly in the battery bay without any gaps or obstructions and that latch locks are tight.
- Physical Battery Check:
- Determine if the battery gets hot during charging (batteries normally heat up when charging but should not be too hot to touch).
Verify Front Battery Status Light
- Battery Status Light:
- Off: Battery not recognized.
- Blinking amber: Critically low battery level.
Reset
- Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the computer, disconnect all external peripherals, and unplug the AC adapter. Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power. Plug the AC adapter back in and turn on the computer.
- Perform a Soft Reset:
- Restore system BIOS to its default settings.
Verify AC Adapter
- Check Functionality:
- Verify that the computer needs the AC adapter to boot and operate.
- Intermittent bad AC adapter or loose connection may result in inability to charge the battery.
- Inspect AC Adapter:
- Check for physical damage, bent middle ID pin, and functioning status.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
