Hi @Computermom68<

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed explanation—this sounds frustrating, but I can help you troubleshoot it step by step. Based on what you described, it seems like your HP monitor is not detecting a signal, and your keyboard and mouse are also unresponsive. Here's how to approach this:

1. Check Monitor Input Source

  • Make sure the monitor is set to the correct input source (e.g., HDMI).
  • Use the monitor’s physical buttons to open the input/source menu and manually select HDMI.

2. Test the HDMI Cable and Monitor

  • Try the HDMI cable with another device (like a laptop or game console) to confirm it works.
  • Try a different HDMI cable if available.
  • Try connecting the monitor to a different computer to rule out monitor issues.

3. Check PC Boot Behaviour

  • When you power on the PC, listen for beeps or fan noise—this confirms it's booting.
  • If there are no beeps or lights, the PC might not be booting at all (possible motherboard or PSU issue).

4. Keyboard and Mouse Not Working

  • Try different USB ports, especially USB 2.0 (black) vs USB 3.0 (blue).
  • If they are wireless, ensure:
    • The dongle is securely connected.
    • Fresh batteries are installed.
    • Try using a wired keyboard/mouse to test.

5. Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

If the system is stored and now behaves oddly, the BIOS might need a reset:

  • Turn off the PC and unplug it.
  • Open the case (if you're comfortable).
  • Remove the CMOS battery (a coin-cell battery on the motherboard) for 5–10 minutes.
  • Reinsert it and try powering on again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
