Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A2AV)

I booted up my computer this morning to find that my wired headphones that were working yesterday and haven't moved since are no longer detected at all by the computer. All the settings options I've found to try and fix that have been to try and find wireless devices. How do I get my computer to pick up on my wired headphones?

Hi @Jiji_Keline, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your wired headphones are no longer detected on your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15, follow these steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Check Basic Connections

  • Ensure the headphones are properly plugged in to the 3.5mm audio jack.
  • Try another pair of wired headphones to rule out a hardware issue.
  • Test your current headphones on another device to verify they are working.

Restart Your Laptop

  • A simple restart can refresh the audio drivers and fix detection issues.

Set Headphones as Default Device

  1. Right-click the Speaker icon in the taskbar (bottom-right).
  2. Click "Sound settings".
  3. Scroll down and select "More sound settings".
  4. Under the Playback tab, look for your headphones.
    • If listed but disabled, right-click and enable them.
    • If not visible, right-click anywhere and check "Show Disabled Devices".
  5. Set the headphones as default and click OK.

Check Audio Driver

  1. Press Win + X → Select Device Manager.
  2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
  3. Right-click Realtek Audio (or any other driver listed) → Select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and let it update.
  5. If the issue persists, right-click Realtek Audio → Select Uninstall device → Restart your laptop (Windows will reinstall the driver automatically).

Use HP Support Assistant to Update Drivers

  • Download and run HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant
  • Let it detect and install the latest audio drivers.

Disable Front Panel Jack Detection (Realtek HD Audio)

  1. Open Realtek Audio Console (or Realtek HD Audio Manager).
  2. Navigate to Connector Settings.
  3. Disable "Front Panel Jack Detection".
  4. Plug in your headphones and check if they are detected.

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
