Hi @Gerhardeugen,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you want to get rid of the Numlock Unfortunately, you cannot remove the key function; however, if you want, you can turn off the feature.
Please try the steps shared below and let me know if this helps.
Option 1: Use the Num Lock Key Directly
- Look at the top-right area of your keyboard (usually near F12, Delete, or Scroll Lock).
- Press the Num Lock key once.
- A small light on the keyboard should turn off (or on, depending on the previous state).
- Test the number pad — if it types arrow keys instead of numbers, Num Lock is now off.
📝 Some HP keyboards label it just as “NumLk” or combined with another key like Fn.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Vikram ,
Here is a photo of my keyboard .There is no numeric lock .
The lock ( top right ) Shots down the PC . There is no indication of a light source on any of the keys that I can detect either.
As you can see ,there is a Calculator icon instead of the " numeric lock "
Thanks for your help

Hi @Gerhardeugen,
You're absolutely right — based on what you've described, the lock icon above the numeric keypad is most likely the Num Lock indicator. This key toggles the number pad functionality on or off.
To assist you better and to confirm if there are any additional lock symbols or functions, could you please share a full image of the keyboard layout? That will help identify if there are other lock-related functions like:
- Caps Lock (usually on the left)
- Fn Lock (sometimes on Esc or other function keys)
- Or any unique HP-specific shortcut locks.
Once I have the full image, I’ll be able to provide a more precise explanation for every lock icon you see. Looking forward to your reply!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Gerhardeugen,
Thank you for sharing the image of the Keyboard. Please let me know if this is an HP Keyboard. The reason I am asking is that the HP All-in-One Desktop PC 27-cr0000a, shows that this PC has gone with a USB Keyboard and Mouse.
May I know this is an HP Keyboard, and could you help me with the Serial number of the keyboard, please
Keep me posted.

Hi @Gerhardeugen,
Thanks for clarifying. If your HP keyboard (model 27cr0029c) only has a lock icon on the "Numbers" key on the right, that likely refers to the Num Lock function, which shows as a simplified symbol instead of labelling it explicitly.
Steps to Turn Off Num Lock Without a Labelled Key:
- Press the key with the lock icon (on the top-left of the number pad, usually above the 7 key).
– This key toggles Num Lock on and off. – If your keyboard has no dedicated Num Lock light, test it by pressing keys like 8, 2, or 4.- If numbers appear: Num Lock is ON
- If the cursor moves (like arrow keys): Num Lock is OFF
Still not toggling? Use the On-Screen Keyboard:
- Press Windows + R, type osk, and press Enter.
- Look for "NumLock" on the right side of the on-screen keyboard.
- Click it once to toggle Num Lock off. If it's blue or lit, it's on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
