HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fa-0000 (8Z8P5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi , I bought my new Envy direct from HP (UK) two weeks ago. Sadly it had OneDrive and McAfee one month trials, pre loaded.

Immediately ran into an issue when copying files from my local hard drive to my new laptop. As, Red X signs on every drive asking to pay for more memory for OneDrive.

Contacted HP Support several times, even spoke to them on the phone. Copied all my photos, music, videos and some documents off my new Envy laptop, to stop the Red Xs.

Now getting Buy, Buy, Buy for McAfee and OneDrive.

Due to this and the lack of support from HP, I'd like to return my new laptop to HP and get a full refund.

Best wishes,

Ian

OneDrive comes with Windows and HP like other OEMs has little control over what Microsoft puts into windows.  There is 5gb free and unless Micro$loft has changed their policy it stays free as long as you have less than 5gb.

If you do get another PC then be sure to uninstall or disable it before copying any files.  I have uninstalled it on several systems but it is difficult to uninstall once you have started using it.   I has to ask Microsoft how to uninstall it.

I removed McAfee years ago when I discovered they were phoning home and taking 30 seconds to try to connect to non-existent servers.  They probably have fixed their phone home problem since then but I would rather use Windows 11 defender regardless.

I have seen worse problems upgrading an iPhone and they provide the same 5gb of free space which is never enough.

If you have something that is "1 month free" it is likely office 365 instead of McAfee or OneDrive.

You should have no problem getting a refund but it will likely be an instore credit.

Cheers BeemerBiker,

Thought as much. What surprised me was the total Lack of Communication with HP, bearing in mind, I bought it direct. I'll buy from AO, PC World, or some other outlet, next time. Much better Support.

The 5Gbs free OneDrive is OK, for new laptops, where people haven't got a shed load of files and pictures they want to copy across.

What I have done, to get around it, is to create Documents, Music, Pictures, Video folders linked to my user name, to use instead of those linked to OneDrive. In a few weeks, once I've made my mind up regarding my laptop, I may delete the OneDrive folders. The only thing left then, is what McAfee, tries to do, to disrupt my laptop's operation, once the one month trial ends.

Thank you again,

Ian

What you describe is a problem using Window and OneDrive.  Microsoft is really the one to ask those  questions to.
