omnidesk m02-0159ng

I would like to install an adidtional SSD in a omnidesk m02-0159ng?

When I open the case I see a Power connector for SSD at the mainboard, but couldn´t find the needed cable at the HP shop. Also there is no possibility to mount the SSD at the case. Is there a mounting rack available, or how should  I mount an additional SSD?? Thank you for your help!

Hi @Fred700,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Great question! The HP OmniDesk M02-0159ng is a compact desktop, so adding an extra SSD requires checking both power and mounting options. Here’s the full picture:

1. Supported SSD Types

  • Primary slot: NVMe M.2 SSD (already in use for OS).
  • Additional storage:
    • Option A: Another M.2 NVMe (if there’s a second slot on the motherboard).
    • Option B: 2.5" SATA SSD (requires SATA data cable + power connector).

2. Power Connector

You mentioned seeing a power connector on the motherboard. That’s likely for a SATA drive, but HP often does not include the SATA data cable or mounting bracket in slim desktops.

3. Mounting Options

  • HP does not sell a dedicated bracket for this model in the online store.
  • Common solutions:
    • Use a universal 2.5" SSD mounting bracket (fits in the existing HDD bay or optical bay).
    • If space is tight, you can use double-sided thermal tape or Velcro to secure the SSD inside the chassis (safe for SSDs since they have no moving parts).

4. Cables You Need

  • SATA data cable (standard 7-pin).
  • SATA power cable (usually comes from the PSU; if not, you may need a splitter).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
