My HP active pen G3 is successfully connected to my Omnibook, but does not perform any action. How to fix this?

Hi @Sabine77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

         Check the Pen’s Battery/Charge

  • Even though the pen connects, a low or faulty battery can prevent input.
  • Make sure the pen is fully charged or replace the battery if applicable.

  • Verify Windows Ink Settings
    • Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Pen & Windows Ink.
    • Ensure “Allow apps to use my pen” is enabled.
    • Test the pen in apps like Sticky Notes or Whiteboard to confirm functionality.

  • Update Drivers and Firmware
    • Use HP Support Assistant or visit HP’s support site to install the latest graphics driver, touchscreen driver, and Active Pen firmware.
    • Outdated or missing drivers are a common cause of pens not registering input.

  • Check Device Manager
    • Open Device Manager → expand Human Interface Devices.
    • Look for “HID‑compliant pen.” If missing or with a warning icon, reinstall drivers.

  • Test on Different Apps
    • Try drawing in Paint or writing in OneNote. If the pen works in some apps but not others, the issue may be app‑specific.

  • Screen Calibration
    • In Control Panel → Tablet PC Settings, calibrate the screen for pen input.
    • Miscalibration can cause the pen to appear unresponsive.

  • Reset Bluetooth Connection
    • Remove the pen from Bluetooth devices, restart your Omnibook, and reconnect.
    • Sometimes a fresh pairing resolves input issues.

  • Physical Check

Inspect the pen tip for damage or looseness. A worn tip can prevent proper contact.

I hope this helps.
