Welcome to the HP Community --

Fingerprint readers are frequently an optional part of the purchase -- that is, not every computer that supports a fingerprint reader comes with the reader installed.  In general, then, the fingerprint reader must be added at purchase like you would other optional features.

That means...

Your computer might not have a fingerprint reader -- some computers that include a "box" on the keyboard that looks like a finger print sensor have instead just a cover plate where the fingerprint reader would be located.

Check your Device Manager --

If there is no Biometric devices entry for the fingerprint reader,

then

Your computer does not have an installed fingerprint reader sensor.

Settings > Search and open Device Manager

OR

Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager

Tab View

Check Show hidden devices

Select Devices by Type

Expand Category Biometric Devices

Device_Manager_Generic_Biometrics_Fingerprint_Camera_6Device_Manager_Generic_Biometrics_Fingerprint_Camera_6

If your computer supports a fingerprint reader, find the part number and the installation procedure.

Open Product Home Page for your computer

Open Category Setup and User Guides

Find and open  Maintenance and Service Guide manual for your computer model

Search for "fingerprint"
