When I turn my laptop on it won't load and if I try to factory reset using either f10 or f11 it won't factory reset running a blue screen error test on it now but any help would be great.

Hi @Rlemoine82,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is stuck in a serious boot failure state, and the fact that F10 (BIOS) and F11 (Recovery) options don’t allow a factory reset suggests the recovery partition or system files are corrupted. The blue screen error you mentioned (likely “Critical Process Died” or similar) confirms OS-level corruption.

Here’s what this means and what you can do:

Why This Happens

  • Interrupted Windows update or rollback
  • Corrupted boot files or recovery partition
  • Hardware issues (less likely if diagnostics run)

Steps to Fix It

1. Try Startup Repair

  • Power on → Press Esc repeatedly → F11 for Recovery.
  • If you reach Advanced Options, choose:
    • Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Repair.

2. Run System File Repair

  • In Advanced Options → Command Prompt, run: sfc /scannow
                                     DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

(If these fail, the OS image is too damaged.)

3. If Recovery Fails → Use USB Installation Media

Since factory reset isn’t working, the most reliable fix is to reinstall Windows using a bootable USB:

4. Update BIOS (Optional but Recommended)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
