My keyboard keys don't all do the right job. Pressing 3 or 4 makes it press 3 and 4 and the same for d and f, e and r, and c and v. T makes it also press reload g also presses the full screen function b also presses the back arrow button and 5 does it with the forward arrow

Hi @appleblossom_66,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how unusual this behavior feels, especially when pressing one key causes multiple letters or functions to trigger at the same time. Since keys like 3 and 4, D and F, E and R, and others are responding together, we first need to determine whether this is being caused by the keyboard hardware itself or by the system software.

Before we continue, could you please check whether any of the keys feel physically sticky, stuck down, or harder to press than normal? Even a small amount of debris or a partially stuck key can sometimes cause grouped key responses like this.

I would also recommend running the HP Hardware Diagnostics keyboard test directly from BIOS, since that checks the keyboard outside of Windows.

Please try the following steps:

Run Keyboard Test in HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn the laptop completely OFF.
  2. Turn it back ON and immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly.
  3. When the Startup Menu appears, press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).
  4. Select:
    • Component Tests
    • Then choose Keyboard
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and test the keys that are giving incorrect responses.

Please let us know:

  • Do the keys respond correctly during the BIOS keyboard test?
  • Or do they still press multiple keys/functions there as well?

That result will help determine whether this is a hardware keyboard issue or something happening inside Windows, and we’ll guide you further from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @appleblossom_66,

Thank you for getting back and letting me know.

May I know if you have already contacted the support team, and if they previously shared any case number with you? If yes, please do share the case details.

Also, could you please run the hardware test on the PC? The steps were shared earlier. Please try them and let me know the results.

If the PC is under warranty, the repair would be covered for any mechanical hardware issue. If the device is out of warranty, the repair/support would be chargeable.

I'm an HP Employee.
