I am trying to hook up 2 external monitors to my new laptop and it shows it cannot detect them.  I had them hooked up to my old asus laptop with no issues so not sure why I am having such trouble.  I have tried all the basic troubleshooting, restart, uninstall and reinstall driver, checked cords, monitors, etc and still nothing.  

 

Any suggestions other than the basic stuff to fix this?  Please keep in mind when responding I am not that technically savvy but given good direction I can get it done.  Thank you so much for any help, you are appreciated!

If you are facing issues with your new laptop not recognizing external monitors, there are a few advanced troubleshooting steps you can try:
 

Check Display Settings:
 

  • Right-click on the desktop and select 'Display settings.'
  • Check if the monitors are detected. Try clicking on 'Detect' under the multiple displays section.


Connection Type:
 

  • Verify that you are using the correct ports (HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, USB-C, etc.) on your laptop and monitors. Some laptops have dedicated ports for certain functions, like Thunderbolt ports for high-resolution displays.
  • Ensure that the cables are securely connected to both the laptop and the monitors.


Graphics Driver:
 

  • Double-check that your graphics driver is from the laptop manufacturer or the graphics card manufacturer. Sometimes, Windows Updates might install a generic driver that is not fully compatible.


Display Mode:
 

  • Press Windows + P keys to open the Windows projection options and choose a display mode (e.g., 'Extend' or 'Duplicate').


Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:
 

  • Make sure your laptop's BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest updates.


Ports and Adapters:
 

  • If you are using adapters, ensure they are functioning properly and are compatible with your laptop.
  • Try different ports on your laptop to see if there is an issue with the port itself.

It ended up being the hub I was using, I did not realize they are not universal.  I purchased a new one and works great now.  Thank you for your quick response!
