My HP 23.8" Touchscreen All-in-One, purchased in October 2023, recently has experienced boot-up issues from either sleep mode or when it is shut down. This morning, it took several minutes for it to finally boot-up after I pressed the power button. I tried the hard reset, but that did not work.
What should I do next?

Thanks very much, Max. However, when I select "Power Options" I do not see "Additional power settings."
For the time being, I am not shutting down my computer at night. Could it be that a recent Windows update is what caused the problem and that will be corrected in the next update?
Also, would choosing "hibernate" rather than "sleep" when I log off at night possibly avoid the long boot-up time?
Thanks,
Rodney

Hi @RodneyS3, Thanks for the follow-up! You're asking some great questions, let’s address each one and help you move forward.
Missing “Additional Power Settings”
If you don’t see “Additional power settings”, try this alternate path:
- Press Windows + R, type control, and hit Enter to open the Control Panel.
- Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- On the left pane, click “Choose what the power buttons do”.
- Then click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.
- Uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”, then Save changes.
This setting is known to cause boot delays on some systems.
Could a Windows Update Be the Cause?
Yes, it’s quite possible. Windows updates occasionally introduce bugs that affect boot behavior, especially with sleep/hibernate modes. If this started recently, it may be linked to a recent update. Microsoft often releases fixes in subsequent updates, so keeping your system updated is a good idea.
You can check your update history via:
- Settings > Windows Update > Update history
If you suspect a specific update, you can also uninstall it temporarily.
Hibernate vs Sleep
Choosing Hibernate instead of Sleep can be a smart workaround.
- Sleep keeps your session in RAM, which can sometimes cause wake-up issues.
- Hibernate saves your session to disk and powers off the system, more stable for overnight use.
To enable Hibernate:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click “Choose what the power buttons do”.
- Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.
- Check “Hibernate” under shutdown options.
Then, when logging off at night, choose Hibernate from the Start menu power options.
I hope this helps!

Take care and have a great day.
