Hi @alexvin1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.
If your HP w2338h monitor's display goes black after some time, it could be caused by various issues such as settings, overheating, hardware faults, or connectivity problems. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide:
1. Check Power Settings:
- Sleep Mode: Ensure your computer and monitor are not set to enter sleep or power-saving mode too quickly.
- On Windows:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
- Increase the time for sleep mode or set it to "Never" for testing purposes.
- On the monitor: Check its menu settings for any power-saving mode and disable it.
- On Windows:
2. Verify Cables and Connections:
- Ensure the HDMI, VGA, or DVI cable is securely connected.
- Test with a different cable and/or port.
- If possible, connect the monitor to another computer to rule out cable or port issues.
3. Monitor Overheating:
- Touch the back of the monitor to see if it feels excessively hot.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the monitor and that no vents are blocked.
- Clean the monitor's vents with compressed air to remove dust.
4. Test with Factory Reset:
- Access the monitor's on-screen display (OSD) menu and perform a factory reset.
- Steps:
- Press the monitor's Menu button.
- Navigate to the Settings or Factory Reset option.
- Confirm the reset.
- Steps:
5. Check for Hardware Issues:
- Backlight Failure: If the display is faintly visible under a bright light, the backlight may be failing.
- Capacitor Problem: Older monitors may develop capacitor issues. This typically requires professional repair.
6. Graphics Card/Driver Issues:
- Ensure your graphics drivers are up-to-date.
- On Windows, open Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click your GPU, and choose Update driver.
- Try connecting the monitor to another computer to determine if the issue persists.
7. Test with a Different Power Source:
- Plug the monitor into a different power outlet or try a different power cord if available.
8. Monitor Self-Test:
- Disconnect the monitor from the computer but leave it powered on.
- A "No Signal" or similar message should appear.
- If the display still goes black, it may indicate a monitor hardware issue.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
