HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-0000i (3Y3Q7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP PC has a built in card reader. This has started to flash up a warning to insert a drive. There is a SD card inserted and has been read.

The warning keeps flashing up on the screen and seemingly can only be stopped by restarting the PC.

Do I need a replacement SD card reader, PC is still under warranty?

If so how do I go about this?

Thanks

Hi @Sherman39,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your SD card is inserted and is working. You now see repeated warnings to "insert a drive" as if the card isn’t being detected. It only stops after restarting the PC. The PC is still under warranty. This behaviour is not normal and may point to a faulty SD card reader, a loose internal connection, or a driver-level issue.

Try the following steps just to confirm:

  1. Try a different SD card (to rule out card failure).

  2. Check Device Manager:
    • Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
    • Expand Disk Drives and Memory Technology Devices.
    • Right-click the SD card reader > Update Driver.

  3. Check Windows Updates:
    • Make sure all updates, especially optional drivers, are installed.

If the problem still happens with other cards and after driver updates, then it's time to act under warranty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Vikram The Great.

I tried what you suggested but sadly it did not make any difference.

I will contact HP.

Thanks again

I spoke to HP support for an hour. They talked me through several different software updates, including the BIOS and this seems to have worked.

Thank you again for trying to help
