I have a HP laptop 14 and I went to the bathroom and it was open and I was listening to charge and I have a little brother that's 1 years old and when I came back there was water on the computer and he was just pressing buttons and the computer was unplugged so I plugged it and pressed the power button and there was this black screen with blue words on it and I kept pressing buttons and pressing the power button and then after that my screen stopped turning on and stuff it wouldn't even charge cuz you know how when you see the little orange or the little color by the charging slot I didn't see no color it's like the whole system went down  prior to that the computer was already dead

@Prettylaathug, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Steps to Deal with Water Damage on HP Laptops!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Step 1: Turn Off the Laptop

  1. Shut it Down: If your laptop is still on, shut it down immediately by pressing and holding the power button.
  2. Unplug the Charger: Disconnect the charger and any other peripherals.

Step 2: Dry the Laptop

  1. Remove Excess Water: Use a soft cloth to gently blot and remove any visible water from the laptop's surface.
  2. Drying Process: Place the laptop in a dry and warm place (not too hot) for at least 24-48 hours. You can use a fan to increase air circulation but avoid using heat sources like hair dryers directly on the laptop.

Step 3: Check for Residue

  1. Inspect the Laptop: After letting it dry, open the laptop carefully and check if there is any visible residue or dampness inside.

Step 4: Restart the Laptop

  1. Power On: After making sure the laptop is dry, try turning it on again.
  2. Check for Error Messages: If it boots into any kind of recovery or message screen, follow the instructions.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
