HP Pavilion - 14-ce2100tx
Microsoft Windows 11

65bd2d59-e66f-4b08-89af-40341dd10d35.jfif

Hello,

As stated in the title, I wanted to change the settings related to gestures and interaction of my HP Pavilion 14 laptop, but as I navigated to the touchpad settings section, there were no settings available for this. Does anyone know what might be the cause behind this? Is it a driver problem? I checked in Device Manager, but I could not see anything with "touchpad" in there. My touchpad is working just fine, though. I just wanted to change the settings a bit, but there was nothing there to change.

I recently had my hard drive replaced with an SSD, so basically all previous settings are gone. Also, I just updated my Windows 11 to the 24H2 version today. I don't know if any of those procedures have anything to do with this problem, but I'm providing that information just in case.

Hi @Meiii

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing all those details—it really helps paint a clear picture. And I totally get how frustrating it is when something as basic as touchpad gestures just vanishes after an upgrade.

Let’s get those settings back where they belong! 😊

Here’s a structured approach to restore your touchpad gesture options:

🛠 Step-by-Step Fix for Missing Touchpad Settings

1. Check for Precision Touchpad Support

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  • If you don’t see gesture options, your system might not be detecting the touchpad as a precision touchpad.
  • To confirm, open Control Panel > Mouse > Touchpad tab (if available). If it’s missing, proceed to the next step.

2. Update or Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

Since the SSD replacement and Windows update likely wiped previous drivers, reinstalling the correct one is key.

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
  • If nothing mentions “Touchpad,” look for HID-compliant touchpad or I2C HID Device.
  • If found, right-click > Update driver > Search automatically.
  • If not found or gestures still missing, download the latest driver from the HP Pavilion 14-ce2100tx driver page.

3. Install Intel Serial IO Driver

This driver is often required for touchpad functionality on HP laptops.

4. Enable Touchpad in BIOS

Sometimes the touchpad is disabled at the firmware level.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Device Options.
  • Ensure Touchpad is set to Enabled.
  • Save and exit.

5. Run System File Checker

Just in case any system files got corrupted during the update:

sfc /scannow

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the above command.
  • Restart once it completes.

Let me know how it goes! If the settings still don’t show up, I can help dig deeper or guide you through manually installing the driver from a local folder. We’ll get this sorted. 💪

Hi,

Thank you for your response and very detailed guide. I tried looking into the driver page you provided, but unfortunately, it doesn't have driver support for Windows 11 24H2 for my laptop model. Is there any other way I could get those drivers?

@Meiii, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Device Manager:

Right-click the Start Menu → Click Device Manager

Expand "Mice and other pointing devices."

If you don’t see Synaptics, ELAN, or Touchpad, the driver is missing.

Use HP Support Assistant (Easy Method):

Download it here: HP Support Assistant

Install and run it.

It should find and install the correct touchpad driver for you.

Install Touchpad Driver Manually (If Support Assistant doesn’t help):

Go to: HP Drivers Page

Enter your laptop model (like HP Pavilion 14-xxxxx)

Download the Touchpad driver (Synaptics or ELAN)

Install and restart your laptop

Check for Optional Driver Updates:

Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.

Install any touchpad-related updates.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
