HP OmniBook Ultra 14 inch Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fd0000 (A4AD0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi All, I have bought a Omnibook Ultra 14. I use this at home in combination with a E34M G4 Ultrawide with docking built.

I very much want to power this laptop on in the morning together with my Monitor when I turn on AC power like I used to with my  Elitebook 840 G8. This way I can power everything down at night and I the morning get everything going with one flip of the switch.

Please let me know if there is a work around or if this will be made available in a future bios update.

Regards,

Boudewijn

Hi @BoudieYoudie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I can see how convenient it would be to have your Omnibook Ultra 14 power on automatically when you turn on the AC power, just like your previous Elitebook. Let's explore potential solutions to make this work for you.

  • Have you already checked the latest BIOS version for your Omnibook Ultra 14 to ensure it is up to date?
  • Is your monitor with docking station connected to the laptop via USB-C or another port?
  • Have you tried configuring any power settings or options in Windows that could assist with automatic power-on or wake-up?

Let's try these steps.

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • Go to the HP Support website and check if there is a newer BIOS version available for your Omnibook Ultra 14. Sometimes newer BIOS versions add more power management features, including Wake on AC.

Look for Alternative Power Settings in BIOS:

  • Even if Wake on AC isn’t directly listed in the BIOS, there might be a similar setting such as Wake on USB or Power on AC. Review the power management or advanced settings tab in BIOS for any related features and enable them if available.

Enable Wake on USB:

  • If the docking station is connected via USB-C or another USB port, check if the Wake on USB option is enabled in the BIOS. This setting allows the laptop to wake from sleep when receiving power from a connected device like your monitor.

Use Windows Power Settings:

  • In Device Manager, ensure that Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled for your network adapter and USB devices (if connected via USB). Go to Control Panel > Power Options and ensure the settings are configured for wake-up functionality, such as "Allow hybrid sleep" and "Allow wake timers."

Use a Smart Power Strip:

  • As a workaround, you could use a smart power strip that can detect when your monitor is powered on and send a signal to the laptop. This would mimic the functionality you want, powering on the laptop when the monitor is turned on.

If the Wake on AC feature isn’t available now, it's possible it could be added in a future BIOS update, so keeping an eye on those updates might help.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi Elohi, Thank you very much for your input. Unfortunately non of the advices actually help me.

Check for BIOS Updates: there are none
Look for Alternative Power Settings in BIOS: There are no other options available in the BIOS
Enable Wake on USB: this also does not exist in the bios or anywhere in windows
Use Windows Power Settings: This also does work for USB only Ethernet, but that means is needs to work with USB.
Use a Smart Power Strip: This also does not work because there is no Wake on Power, Wake On AC, Wake on USB function. whether it is the monitor or the standard power cable.... the setting must be activated first.

The only other option is wake on LAN but that adds a level of complexity that do not want to get into.

Is there a feature request you can deposit at the BIOS development team?

Hi @Moustafa5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

Unfortunately, the Omnibook Ultra 14 does not currently support Wake on AC/Power in its BIOS settings. This feature is sometimes omitted on consumer-oriented or mid-tier devices, unlike business-class laptops like the EliteBook series. Here’s what you can do:

Workarounds:

Use the Monitor's Docking Feature:

  • If your E34m G4 Ultrawide monitor supports wake-on-dock or a similar feature, ensure it is configured to wake connected devices when powered on.
  • Confirm that the USB-C/Thunderbolt connection between the monitor and laptop is set up correctly.

Enable Wake on LAN (WOL):

  • If your laptop supports Wake on LAN, this feature can remotely power it on when connected to the network. This may require configuring BIOS or network card settings.

Manual Power Button Usage:

  • Place the laptop in an accessible position and manually press the power button after turning on the AC power to the monitor.
  • Alternatively, some docking stations offer a power button that can turn on a connected laptop.

BIOS and windows Update:

  • Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

  • Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hello, i have the same problem. No Wake on AC or Power on AC or somerhing like that in the BIOS? Do you plan this feature in one of the next BIOS revisions?

Can't believe that you tell us, that tis feature is not supported by this device, because of it is customer-oriented. We all paid a really big chunk of money for it and it is absolutely appropriate that we also get some premium features and not just mid-tier features for those customers who only buy mid-tier devices for mid-tier money.

As mentioned in this post above, the said laptop model does not support Wake on AC/Power in its BIOS settings.

By design, this feature is omitted on consumer models, unlike business-class laptops like the EliteBook series.
