Hi @MikeB78

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Certainly! Here’s how you can add a printer icon to your desktop or start menu and access the scan feature on your HP DeskJet 2820e:

Step 1: Create a Desktop Shortcut for the Printer

  1. Press Windows + S to open the search bar and type Devices and Printers.
  2. Open the Devices and Printers control panel.
  3. Locate your HP DeskJet 2820e printer in the list.
  4. Right-click on the printer and select Create Shortcut. If it asks permission, click Yes to place the shortcut on your desktop.

Step 2: Pin the Printer to the Start Menu

  1. In the Devices and Printers window, right-click your printer.
  2. Select Pin to Start to add the printer as a tile in the Start menu for easy access.

Step 3: Access the Scan Feature

The HP Smart app is the best way to use the scan option with your printer:

  1. Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Open the HP Smart app and click Add Printer if it’s not already detected.
  3. Once connected, select the Scan option from the app.
  4. Place your document on the scanner glass, select the desired scan settings, and start scanning.

Step 4: Create a Scan Shortcut on the Desktop

  1. Open the HP Smart app and navigate to the Scan section.
  2. Once you configure your preferred scan settings, save them for quick access.
  3. You can also save scanned files directly to a folder or location for convenience.

These steps will make accessing your printer and scanner features effortless!
