Using Publisher, when I print the layout on my desktop monitor, the actual print has shifted the image and cut off part of the page. This has happened several times, but not always.

Please help!

Hi @pstrandberg

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue where the print layout in Microsoft Publisher doesn't match what you see on the screen, and part of the image is getting cut off or shifted. This issue could stem from several different factors, including print settings, page margins, or printer driver configurations.

Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix this issue:

1. Check Printer Settings in Publisher

Sometimes, the issue could be due to the way Publisher is sending the print job to the printer. Ensure the settings are correct:

  • In Publisher, go to FilePrint.
  • Click on Printer Properties and review the settings.
  • Ensure the paper size matches the one you’re using (e.g., A4, Letter).
  • Under Layout, check if it’s set to print in the right orientation (Portrait or Landscape).

2. Check Page Setup and Margins

It’s possible that the margins or page layout in Publisher aren’t set up properly.

  • Go to Page DesignPage Setup and check the layout settings.
  • Make sure the page size in Publisher matches the paper size in the printer settings (e.g., if you're printing on Letter-sized paper, the page size in Publisher should also be set to Letter).
  • Double-check the margins. If the margins are too narrow, parts of the image could be cut off during printing.

3. Ensure Correct Scaling Settings

If your image is shifting or getting cut off, it could be due to scaling settings in the printer settings.

  • When you go to FilePrint, check the Scaling options in the print dialog.
    • If it’s set to something like Fit to Page, it could be stretching or shrinking your layout. Try selecting Actual Size or 100% to print without any scaling.
  • You may also see an option like Fit to Printable Area in the printer properties—make sure this is turned off if it’s causing the shift.

4. Update Printer Drivers

An outdated or incorrect printer driver could be causing the print job to not match the screen layout.

  • Visit the printer manufacturer's website and check for the latest driver version for your printer model.
  • If you have a printer that automatically updates drivers, make sure it's running the most recent version.

5. Check for Printer Paper Handling Issues

If the printout is consistently misaligned or part of the page is cut off, it could be an issue with how your printer is handling paper:

  • Make sure the printer’s paper tray is properly aligned and set to the correct paper size.
  • Check if the paper is loaded correctly—sometimes if the paper is not aligned in the tray, it can shift during printing.

I hope this helps.
