Verification of authenticity of a hp reseller not in the HP website reseller list

@BONY243,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

If the reseller is not listed on HP's official reseller/partner locator, that does not automatically mean it is fake, but it does mean you should proceed carefully.

Some legitimate businesses:

  • sell HP products through distribution channels without being an "HP Authorized Partner"
  • may have allowed their authorization to lapse
  • may only be authorized in certain regions
  • may primarily sell refurbished/open-box systems

Before purchasing, verify:

  • the company has a legitimate business address and phone number
  • the serial numbers/product numbers are valid HP products
  • the systems include a valid HP warranty (if advertised as new)
  • payment methods have buyer protection
  • reviews exist outside the reseller’s own website

You can also contact HP directly and ask whether the reseller is authorized: HP Official Support

If possible, provide:

  • reseller name
  • website
  • country
  • exact product listing

because some scam sites imitate HP branding very convincingly.

Also note:

  • "HP Certified Refurbished" status is different from being an authorized new-product reseller.
  • Marketplace sellers on sites like Amazon, Walmart, or eBay are often third-party sellers and may not appear in HP's partner database at all.
  • If warranty coverage is important, ask the seller for the serial number before purchase and verify warranty status directly with HP.

A missing reseller listing alone is not proof of fraud, but it is a reason to do additional verification before buying.

Kind Regards,
