I have an HP Model 15s-eq2230au laptop and want to upgrade the memory to a 1TB or 2TB SSD unit.

Please confirm which SSD units I should be looking at for this laptop.

Thanks,

Bart

You can install any 1 or 2 TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD that you want.

Popular brands are Crucial, Samsung and Western Digital.

Your notebook's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

A Gen 4.0 SSD will work fine, but it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.

You will probably find that a PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD cost the same or even less nowadays than the older Gen 3's.

Below is a link to a service teardown video I found online:

Thank you Paul. Perfect answer provided.

Would a 1TB Gen 4 SSD make an observable difference in the speed of the laptop? Or should I rather sell this laptop and try buying a faster laptop?

You're very welcome, Bart.

A Gen 4.0 SSD in your notebook may provide a little better performance than the Gen 3.0 SSD HP installed probably because they didn't install the best performing Gen 3.0 SSD available.

The high performing Gen 3.0 SSD's have a maximum transfer read speed of 3,500 MBPS and a maximum write speed between 3,000 and 3,200 MBPS.

The Gen 4 SSD should do at least as well and may even approach 4,000 MBPS because that is the maximum speed the Gen 3.0 slot can provide.

Cheers,

Paul
