@PatriciaH1962, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the scanner failure!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

A "Scanner Failure" error on your HP OfficeJet 8015e usually indicates a hardware or software issue. Try the following troubleshooting steps:

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Check the Scanner Light

  • Lift the scanner lid and check if the scanner light turns on when you try to scan.
  • If the light does not turn on, there may be a hardware issue.

Update Firmware & Drivers

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can update it via the HP Smart App or from HP support website.
  • Also, update your computer’s printer drivers.

Check for Stuck Scanner Mechanism

  • Open the scanner lid and gently move the scanner bar to see if it’s stuck.
  • If there’s any obstruction, carefully remove it.

Perform a Factory Reset

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to:
    SetupPrinter MaintenanceRestore Factory Defaults
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

I hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
