I tried to post in the laptop forum but the HP website kept telling me to correct errors in red and would NOT let me post. No matter what I tried! No formatting changes and this forum accepted my post with no issues. Go figure!
I did a search for the correct service manual for my laptop. Can anyone confirm if I have found the best/most correct manual? I presume option #2 is correct?
My search of the site yielded the following response:
I’m sorry, but I don’t know the service manual for the HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-es1000 RCTO Base Model from the provided content.
What I found instead:
- A specifications document for HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ew0000 series.
- A maintenance and service guide for HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-fe0xxx.
- A maintenance and service guide for older HP ENVY x360 15 / 15m Convertible PC models.

As a secondary issue:
is it normal to have odd lengths for screws?
I have noted may screws in the manual are 2.0 or 2.5 diameter but the lengths are what surprised me. I was expecting .5 increments, instead I see lengths like 2.2, 2.8, 2.9, 3.2, 3.6, 3.7, 4.3, 4.9 and 5.2. Is this normal for this model or maybe even HP in general?
Then I looked at the screw kit and I see that the kit is non-orderable. Yes, the laptop is 4 years old but I wasn't expecting the inability to order parts from HP. Supposedly, eBay or Amazon have them. Not being critical but this is somewhat disappointing. Perhaps there are some reasons I don't understand so please comment if you know more.
Thanks!

The forum has had this issue for several days now and it has been reported.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series:
HP normally only issues one manual for the original model series (15m-es0xxx) so some of the information may not be applicable to your notebook as the processor and memory information.
The screw sizes would be the same.
The screw kit (M45469-001) for your notebook's model series is not orderable.
Unfortunately, I would not know why the screw lengths are the way they are.

Thank you for the reply and clarifying which manual is correct. I did also find the one you listed and I was deliberating between the two of them. It's good to have a second set of eyes on an issue.
Regarding screw lengths- yeah I hear you. I just found it a little odd they were so hyper specific but I can also sort of understand why when thinking about the engineering aspect of things. I just didn't have much experience with HP specificially and was curious what others might know.
Thanks again.

You're very welcome.
If you can't find the exact sizes you need, there probably has to be some tolerance in the lengths.
If it were me, I'd round up to 2.5 if it was 2.3 or 2.4 in the manual and you could only find a 2.0 or a 2.5, and round down to 2.0 if it were 2.2 or 2.1.

Makes sense. I was able to find the screw kits on Amazon and eBay. So I think I'll go that route. At least I'll have a chance of getting the right screws. Ultimately I have to take this laptop apart again because I replaced a keyboard/palmrest assembly about a year ago. The keyboard fixed the issue but I always had issues with hinges and cover being loose after my repair. I can only assume I got a few screws in the wrong spot or they were too short for the intended location. I have collected a few screws in my "spare parts" bag this last year. Anyway, now that I have the manual I can perform a screw inventory and pay close attention to what screw gets installed in each location. That should fix my issue. I didn't see any broken plastic when disassembling/assembling.
