Shift keys work infrequently.

The shift keys sometimes work, but quite seldom and at random. Tte caps lock key always works and so does the shift key on the on-screen keyboard. HELP.

Test with an external USB keyboard, if shift works reliably there, it's likely your laptop's built-in keyboard hardware (dirty contacts under the key).

If the laptop key is faulty, I suggest using an external keyboard as a reliable workaround, since laptop keyboard repairs can be troublesome and time-consuming. If you want to fix it, first try cleaning under the shift key with compressed air or a soft brush; if that fails, visit your nearest HP service center for warranty inspection, replacement, or repair.
