Hello Chavsi,

Thank you for posting your concern,

If your new laptop is running slow all of a sudden, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take before considering a return. Here’s a list of potential fixes:

Initial Checks

  1. Restart the Laptop:

    • A simple restart can resolve many temporary issues caused by background processes or minor system errors.
  2. Look for Software Updates:

    • Ensure that your operating system and drivers are up to date. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and check for updates.
  3. Remove Unnecessary Programs:

    • Uninstall any pre-installed software or bloatware that you do not need, as these can consume system resources.

Check Background Processes

  1. Task Manager Review:

    • Open Task Manager by pressing "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" or right-clicking the taskbar and selecting "Task Manager."
    • Under the "Processes" tab, check for any applications or processes using high CPU, memory, or disk usage. Close unnecessary applications.
  2. Disable Startup Programs:

    • In Task Manager, go to the "Startup" tab and disable programs that you do not need to start with Windows. This can help improve boot time and overall performance.

Manage System Resources

  1. Check for Malware:

    • Run a full system scan with Windows Defender or another trusted antivirus program to ensure malware isn’t slowing down your system.
  2. Free Up Disk Space:

    • Ensure your disk has enough free space. You can use the "Disk Cleanup" tool to remove temporary files.
  3. Change Performance Settings:

    • Adjust Windows performance settings for best performance. Go to "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "System" > "Advanced system settings" > "Settings" under Performance.

Advanced Steps

  1. Check For Hardware Issues:

    • Ensure that no hardware component like a cooling fan is malfunctioning, which can cause the system to throttle due to overheating.
  2. Reset the PC:

    • If everything else fails, you can reset Windows by going to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Recovery" and selecting "Reset this PC." Choose whether to keep your files or remove everything.

Consider Return or Support

  • Contact Support or Consider Return:
    • If these steps do not resolve the issue and the laptop continues to perform poorly, contact the manufacturer's support for further assistance.
    • Check the return policy from where you purchased the laptop. If the problem persists, you may consider returning it within the return period.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and address the issue with your laptop's performance. If you have further questions or specific details, feel free to share!
