HP OmniBook X Flip 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 16-ar0000 (AK4S0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I was recently able to get my omnibook x flip 16 out of the tablet mode it had been stuck in for more than 10 days. Two days ago, I got a bios update on HP Support Assistant and I installed it and today I got a "The CMOS checksum is invalid" while starting my laptop which I bought two months ago. I remember getting that same error after updating the BIOS around two months ago as well, right after installing a BIOS update! **bleep**, hp products are really pure garbage!20251004_190602.jpg

Hi @Dy13n,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I see the screenshot, your HP OmniBook X Flip is showing a CMOS checksum invalid (502) error after a recent BIOS update. This usually happens when the BIOS detects that the CMOS settings don’t match the expected checksum, often due to a BIOS update or battery issue. Let’s go through steps to fix this.

Restart the Laptop

Press Enter to restart the laptop as prompted.

Sometimes the error clears after one reboot if the BIOS successfully resets to default settings.

Enter BIOS Setup

As the laptop restarts, press Esc or F10 (depending on the model) to enter BIOS/UEFI.

Once in BIOS, check that the date and time are correct — if not, set them.

Review the BIOS settings and ensure default values are applied.

Load BIOS Defaults

In BIOS, find an option like Load Setup Defaults or Restore Defaults.

Save and exit.

This ensures the CMOS values match the BIOS checksum.

Check the CMOS Battery

If the error persists, it could indicate a weak or disconnected CMOS battery, though this is less likely in a two-month-old laptop.

The CMOS battery maintains BIOS settings when the system is powered off.

Update BIOS Again (if needed)

Boot into Windows and open HP Support Assistant.

Check for the latest BIOS update and reinstall it to ensure it applied correctly.

Avoid interrupting the BIOS update process.

Monitor for Recurrence

After the above steps, if the error repeats frequently, it could indicate a hardware issue with the motherboard.

Keep the laptop plugged in during updates and restart cycles.

I hope this helps.
