Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I noticed that SysInfoCap.exe has been using 5GB of my RAM (have 8GB of RAM) so it kinda fills up my RAM!
Any ideas how to fix?

Thank you!

Hi @AnonymousGamer2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you're seeing SysInfoCap.exe consuming around 5GB of RAM on your HP PC, which is significantly impacting performance. We’re here to help identify and resolve this issue.

1. End the Process (Temporary Relief)

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Find SysInfoCap.exe under the Processes tab.
  • Right-click it and select End Task.

This will stop it temporarily, but it may restart after a reboot.

2. Disable It from Startup (Permanent Fix)

  • In Task Manager, go to the Startup tab.
  • Look for SysInfoCap.
  • Right-click and choose Disable.
  • Restart your PC.

3. Uninstall HP System Info Cap (If Available)

  • Press Win + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
  • Look for HP System InformationHP Support Assistant, or anything similar.
  • If found, uninstall it.

4. Update or Roll Back HP Software

  • Visit HP’s official support site and check for:
    • BIOS updates
    • Chipset drivers
    • HP Support Assistant updates
  • If the issue started after a recent update, consider rolling back that update.

5. Run a Malware Scan (Just in Case)

Although SysInfoCap.exe is legitimate, malware can sometimes disguise itself under similar names. Run a full system scan using:

  • Windows Defender, or
  • A trusted antivirus like Malwarebytes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
