Hi @5CD336G8T3
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 is experiencing a serious issue where the taskbar, Start menu, and apps are unresponsive.
Since you've already tried opening settings without success, let's go through some detailed troubleshooting steps to restore functionality.
Step 1: Restart Windows Explorer
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Scroll down and find Windows Explorer under the Processes tab.
- Right-click Windows Explorer and select Restart.
- Check if the taskbar and Start menu start working.
Step 2: Run System File Checker (SFC)
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Click File > Run new task.
- Type cmd, check Create this task with administrative privileges, and click OK.
- In the Command Prompt, type:
sfc /scannow - Press Enter and wait for the scan to complete.
- Restart your laptop and check if the issue is resolved.
Step 3: Run DISM Repair Commands
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator (same steps as above).
- Type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Restart your laptop after the process completes.
Step 4: Create a New User Account
If the issue persists, creating a new user account can help:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Click File > Run new task.
- Type cmd, check Create this task with administrative privileges, and click OK.
- Type the following command:
net user NewUser /add - Restart your laptop and log in with the new account.
Step 5: Perform a System Restore
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Click File > Run new task.
- Type rstrui and press Enter.
- Follow the prompts to restore your system to an earlier working state.
If none of these steps work, you may need to reset Windows or reinstall the operating system.
Let me know which steps work for you, and I’ll guide you further if needed!
