Hi everybody.  I have a notice to update the BIOS but when I press "download and install" a messagge says the version I'm trying to install is older than that I already have. So what can I do?

By the way the package is " HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 8B4C)" Thanks in advance, regards

Hi @Mamen26,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What is the current BIOS version showing on your system (you can usually check this in BIOS Setup or by typing msinfo32 in Windows Run)?
  • Did the update notice come from HP Support Assistant, Windows Update, or directly from HP’s website?
  • Have you recently updated your BIOS manually or through HP tools?

 Troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Verify current BIOS version
    • Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and check the “BIOS Version/Date” field.
    • Compare this with the version listed in the update package (HP’s support site usually shows the version number).
  2. Check HP Support site directly
    • Go to HP’s official support page, enter your product model, and look under Drivers & Software → BIOS.
    • Confirm whether the latest BIOS version available matches or is newer than what you already have.
  3. Clear HP Support Assistant cache
    • Sometimes HP Support Assistant mistakenly prompts for older updates. Try uninstalling/reinstalling HP Support Assistant or clearing its update cache.
  4. Manual installation (if needed)
    • If you find a newer BIOS version on HP’s site, download it manually and run the installer.
    • If the installer still says it’s older, it’s best not to force the update your system may already be ahead of the package.
  5. Ignore outdated prompts
  • If your BIOS is already newer, you can safely ignore the update notice.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your reply. I don't know what to do. I checked for the BIOS version installed in my computer (BIOS AMI F.30, 19/03/2025).  It was the Support Assistant that provided the update. The other day the installer said the version I was trying to update was older than what I already had, which is not true. I have checked your support page and it provides not one update, but two in the same date. They are

  • F.35 Rev.A   30 de dic. de 2025
  • F.36 Rev.A   30 de dic. de 2025

So what can I do? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Mamen26,

Thanks for your response.

I hope you keyed in the right serial number on the hp support website, kindly cross verify the serial number again.

Kindly try updating the latest update that is F.36 Rev.A   30 december 2025 if the serial number and the windows version entered is correct.

Thanks for your reply. It was my fault. The BIOS update was a general update, not specially intended for my computer, that's the information in the web. Thanks again.
