I came into the room after 4 hours, and the PC would not do anything. I was finally able to sign out and shut down, but it would not restart. I finally got it to restart and it said "the instance name passed was not recognized as valid by WMI data provider. I ran SFC and DISM and 'nothing wrong.' This PC Omen needs help

@pdnRPH, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding OMEN PC Startup Issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Based on your description, it seems your OMEN PC is experiencing startup issues, and the error message you received indicates a problem with the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).
Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:
Check Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your PC is updated to the latest Windows version and drivers. Sometimes having outdated drivers or system files can cause unexpected issues.
WMI Repository Reset:
- You can try resetting the WMI repository, which might resolve the error message you're seeing. To do this:
- Open a command prompt with administrative privileges.
- Type the command: winmgmt /salvagerepository and press Enter.
- Restart your PC and check if the issue persists.
Event Viewer Logs:
- Check Event Viewer for any related errors or warnings that might provide more information about what's causing the issue:
- Open Event Viewer (Press Win + R and type 'eventvwr').
- Look under Windows Logs > System and Application for any listed errors around the time you experienced the issue.
Driver Updates through Device Manager:
- Ensure all your drivers are up-to-date via Device Manager:
- Right-click on 'This PC' and select 'Manage.'
- Click on 'Device Manager'.
- Inspect your devices for outdated drivers (right-click and choose ‘Update driver’).
HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Utilize HP’s built-in hardware diagnostics tools to check for any hardware issues:
- Restart the computer and press F2 repeatedly to enter into the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Perform system tests such as "Memory Test" and "Hard Drive Test".
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you! Windows is up to date.
WMI said ok
It appears it needs a new BT driver and Windows says it needs an updated BIOS
Hdwe dx says ok.
This did come up in viewer:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
to the user PAULSSTUDIOHP\Owner SID (S-1-5-21-1017382140-4205772418-34929008-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
I don't know how to do this.

Hi @pdnRPH,
Thank you for the detailed update, that helps a lot in narrowing this down.
@zoey7886, is not available at the moment, and I'll be assisting you further.
I understand those Event Viewer messages can look a bit overwhelming, so let’s break it into a step-by-step process.
The error you found means that a specific Windows service or app is trying to start but doesn’t have the correct permission in Component Services. This isn’t usually a hardware problem but rather a Windows configuration issue.
Here’s how to modify the DCOM permissions:
Open Component Services
Press Windows + R, type dcomcnfg, and press Enter.
Navigate to the Problem Application
In the left panel, expand:
Component Services → Computers → My Computer → DCOM Config
Scroll until you find the application with the matching CLSID from the error (you can also look at the AppID listed in the Event Viewer and match it here).
Edit the Permissions
Right-click the application, and select Properties.
Go to the Security tab.
Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click Edit.
Add your user account (PAULSSTUDIOHP\Owner) and give it Local Launch and Local Activation permissions.
Apply and Restart
Click OK on all windows, then restart your PC.
I hope this helps.
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hi Kuroi,
I could not find the CLSID from the error.
Now these came up in viewer: When I went to each this is what they said:
1)I need a new BIOS update.
2)Enable Secure Boot
3) Using the command prompt, run:
ipconfig /flushdns
nbtstat –R
nbtstat –c
and restart. It still came back.
1)Error setting traits on Provider {8444a4fb-d8d3-4f38-84f8-89960a1ef12f}. Error: 0xC0000001
Bios update needed
2)The Secure Boot update failed to update a Secure Boot variable with error Secure Boot is not enabled on this machine.. For more information, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2169931
Enable secure boot
3)The name "WORKGROUP :1d" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 192.168.1.101. The computer with the IP address 192.168.1.1 did not allow the name to be claimed by this computer.
