Hi @crc515,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model you’re using.
  • Whether the dock powers on (any lights or indicators).
  • If you’ve tried connecting different devices (like an external monitor or USB drive) to the dock and whether they’re detected.
  • Any error messages or notifications you see in Device Manager or Windows settings.

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check BIOS and Drivers
    • Ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version from HP Support.
    • Reinstall the Intel Thunderbolt Controller driver and chipset drivers from HP’s official website.
  2. Enable Thunderbolt in BIOS
    • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS setup.
    • Verify that Thunderbolt support is enabled.
  3. Windows Thunderbolt Settings
    • Open the Thunderbolt Control Center in Windows (you may need to install it from the Microsoft Store).
    • Confirm that the dock is listed and authorized.
  4. Test with Different Ports/Cables
    • If your laptop has multiple Thunderbolt 4 ports, try another one.
    • Use the original HP-certified cable that came with the dock.
  5. Device Manager Check
  • Open Device Manager and look under “System Devices” for the Thunderbolt Controller.
  • If it shows a warning icon, right-click and update the driver.

I hope this helps.

Now it works intermittently.  Sometimes the dock works and the two external screen work.  Sometimes it cuts out and I don't know when it will work again.  Laptop says all drivers are up to date and Thunderbolt is on in the BIOS.

Even if the two external monitors aren't working, and the light on the dock isn't on, it still charges the laptop through the thunderbolt connection.

I did not say it was working fine.

When it works, which is not often, it will work for a while, maybe 10 minutes, then stop working.   Something software related is happening and stopping the thunderbolt connection.

Ans the only way I've got it to work, was to plug it in and leave it.  Then, at some point, it will start working.  Then it will cut out after a short period of time.
