HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek1000 (742J0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I had my laptop taken in my HP for repair due to issues with my motherboard and battery. They fixed these issues but as a result I have now lost the touch screen ability- it has come as if it never existed on my laptop as it does not come up in my settings. However prior to it being taken in for repair it had the touch screen ability, when I first got it back I could use touchscreen. Now from returning to uni today, i have realised it no longer works. My warranty has now run out, but as this wasn't an issue before is there anything that you could do.

Hi @Kay__,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptops touchscreen functionality!

I totally get how frustrating it must be, getting your laptop back and finding the touch screen isn’t working. Let’s walk through a few steps to bring that touchscreen magic back!

1. Check Device Manager

First, ensure that the touch screen device is properly recognized by Windows.

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Look for Human Interface Devices in the list.
  3. Under this section, check if you see HID-compliant touch screen listed.
    • If it's there, right-click on it and choose Enable (if it's disabled).
    • If it's not there, try to scan for hardware changes:
      • Click Action in the top menu and select Scan for hardware changes.

2. Update or Reinstall Touchscreen Drivers

Outdated or missing drivers could be causing the issue.

  1. In Device Manager, right-click on HID-compliant touch screen and select Update driver.
  2. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • If an update is found, let it install and restart your laptop.
  3. If updating doesn't work, you can also uninstall the driver:
    • Right-click on HID-compliant touch screen and select Uninstall device.
    • After uninstalling, restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.

3. Check Touchscreen Settings

There may be a setting that disables the touchscreen functionality:

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
  2. Go to Devices > Touchpad or Tablet Mode settings.
  3. Ensure that the touchscreen is enabled, and check if Tablet Mode is turned off (if you're not using it).

4. Run Windows Troubleshooter

Windows includes built-in troubleshooters that can detect and resolve issues with hardware like the touchscreen.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Look for Hardware and Devices and click Run.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to let Windows diagnose and fix the issue.

5. Perform a System Restore (if available)

If this issue started after the repair, and you think it might be related to recent changes made, you can try performing a System Restore:

  1. Press Windows + R and type rstrui to open the System Restore utility.
  2. Choose a restore point before you returned the laptop for repairs.
  3. Follow the prompts to restore your system. Note that this won't affect your personal files, but it might remove recently installed apps.

6. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

The touchscreen functionality may have been disabled in the BIOS:

  1. Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 (depending on your model) to enter BIOS/UEFI settings.
  2. Look for a setting related to Touchscreen or Internal Devices and ensure that it's enabled.
  3. Save the settings and exit BIOS.

Hopefully, these steps bring your touchscreen back to life! If not, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help!

Please help, it is annoying as prior to it being taken in for repair it didn't have this problem.

It  now says 'No pen or touch input is available for this display,' but the model is an 'HP Pavillion x360 2-in-1 Laptop 14-ek1xxx.'

Please can anything be done
