My touchpad is unresponsive.  I have installed a new one and still nothing.

I did get a local repair company to look at it and they said there was a known problem with a microsoft driver not working which was preventing the touchpad from working.  Anyone come across this before and if yes what was their solution.

In Device Manager the I2C HID Device is showing as cannot start. and wont update.

Many thanks

Hi @Mazza74

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern regarding the touchpad being unresponsive even after replacement, and I appreciate that you’ve already taken the initiative to involve a local repair company and check Device Manager. It’s helpful to know that the I2C HID Device is showing as “cannot start” and won’t update, as that points us toward the driver layer.

To guide you with the most accurate HP‑recommended steps, could you please share a few more details:

  • The exact HP product model (for example, HP Pavilion 14‑dvxxxx).
  • The operating system version currently installed.
  • Whether you’ve already tried using the HP App’s Diagnose & Fix feature or checked for updates through HP Support.

Once I have this information, I can provide precise steps aligned with HP’s official resources to address the driver issue. Could you confirm these details so we can move forward effectively?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
