Hello,
I recently purchased a new HP Omnibook Copilot PC. I'm trying to figure out how you are supposed to type certain key combinations involving the FN key.
I can type FN+left arrow to get a key press of Home. However, if I add another key, such as CTRL, to try and enter CTRL+Home, the FN key is ignored. What gets entered is just CTRL+left arrow.
I've never had a laptop work in this way before. What I've described has always worked to enter CTRL+Home in my scenario.

Hi @KLFord,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having trouble using the FN key in combination with other modifier keys on your HP OmniBook Copilot PC. This behavior can be a bit different compared to other laptops. Here’s what might be happening and some suggestions on how to address it.
- FN Key Behavior: On some laptops, the FN key only modifies the function keys (F1-F12) and does not interact well with other keys like CTRL or ALT. This means that pressing FN+Left Arrow works to emulate the Home key, but FN combined with other modifiers might not work as expected.
- Keyboard Shortcuts Configuration: Check if there are any specific settings in your laptop's keyboard or system settings that might be affecting the behavior of the FN key. Sometimes, manufacturer-specific software or BIOS settings can change how the FN key operates.
- Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all your drivers, especially the keyboard and chipset drivers, are up to date. Also, check for any BIOS updates from HP that might address this issue.
- Check for Alternate Key Combinations: Some laptops have alternative key combinations for certain functions. Check the user manual or HP's support website to see if there are alternative methods for entering combinations like CTRL+Home.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
