Hi @SOMA-NI,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'm sorry you're experiencing issues with network sharing—let's get this resolved so you can seamlessly share files across devices.
- Have you enabled network discovery and file sharing on your HP OmniBook X Laptop and the other devices?
- Are the devices on the same Wi-Fi network, and is the network configured as a "Private" network (not Public)?
- What operating system are the other devices using? (e.g., Windows 10, macOS, etc.)
Enable Network Discovery and File Sharing
- On your HP OmniBook X Laptop:
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Click Change adapter options.
- Right-click your active network connection, select Properties, and ensure File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is checked.
- Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings, and:
- Turn on Network discovery.
- Turn on File and printer sharing.
- Perform similar steps on the other devices.
Set Network to Private
- On your HP laptop:
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
- Click the network you’re connected to and ensure it’s set to Private.
- On the other PCs, ensure the network is also set to Private.
Check Firewall Settings
- Ensure that your firewall isn't blocking network sharing:
- Open Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.
- Ensure File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery are allowed on Private networks.
- Temporarily disable the firewall to check if it resolves the issue.
Use the Same Workgroup
- Ensure all devices are part of the same workgroup:
- Right-click This PC > Properties.
- Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, click Change settings.
- Set the Workgroup to the same name on all devices (e.g., WORKGROUP).
Access Devices Directly
- If devices still don’t appear:
- On your HP OmniBook X, press Win + R, type \\[Other Device Name] or \\[IP Address], and press Enter. For example, \\Desktop-PC.
- You can find the IP address of other devices by running ipconfig in Command Prompt.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
