I need to update my payment method as I have a new bankcard but when I try to do it, the website shows that it will take a £1 payment.  Why is this?  Thanks for any help

@jcb7208, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Updating Payment Method for Instant Ink!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When you update your payment method with a new bank card on your Instant Ink account, a small authorization fee, typically around £1 or equivalent, may be applied to verify the validity of your new card. This is a standard process used to confirm that the card is active and able to process future payments.

Here are the steps to update your payment method for Instant Ink:

Change payment information for Home / Home Office Instant Ink

  1. Sign into your Instant Ink account.
  2. Click Account in the left menu, then Billing or Shipping & Billing.
  3. Click Manage your payment method.
  4. Select a payment method, and then enter all payment information:
    • Credit/debit cards: Enter card number, CVV, and expiration date, even if only the expiration date has changed.
    • Direct Debit: Re-enter your IBAN number, even if it has not changed. Confirm other payment details.
    • PayPal: Follow the on-screen instructions to link your PayPal account.

Change payment information for Business accounts with LaserJet 3000/4000 printers

  1. Sign into your Instant Ink for Business account.
  2. Open Account in the left menu, then Billing or Shipping & Billing.
  3. Expand the section for your current billing method and click Update Payment.
  4. Select Business, and then enter your payment details:
    • Credit/debit cards: Enter card number, CVV, and expiration date, even if only the expiration date has changed.
    • Direct Debit: Re-enter your IBAN number, even if it has not changed. Confirm other payment details.
    • PayPal: Follow the on-screen instructions to link your PayPal account.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you for your reply.  I know how to add my new bankcard details but I am complaining about having to pay £1 to do it.  This is a very antiquated reason for charging  as I do not know of any other company that still does this or uses that excuse.  I want to be able to add my new bank card for free!  Will I get a refund of the £1 charge?  If not, why not?

@jcb7208, Thanks for your follow-up and I completely understand your frustration.

Just to clarify — the £1 isn't actually a charge. It's a temporary authorization hold used by the payment processor to verify your card. This amount is not taken from your account and usually disappears within a few days depending on your bank. HP does not keep this money and it won't appear as a charge on your bill.
