Hello everyone,

I have a old HP EliteDesk, but it still works !!!!

Also I want to know, is it possible to upgrade my  current   processor from   AMD PRO A10-8770 R7   to   Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G ?

Is it compatible ?

Thanks.

@Sepehr_1989,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I can assist you with this, but I need to know what your HP EliteDesk 705 G3 series (SFF/Mini/MT) motherboard's SSID number is.  Please type in: System Information in your lower Windows search bar, and click on the System Information app, and look to the right of "BaseBoard Product" where you'll find a four-digit alphanumerical value, and provide that information.

Kind Regards,

@Sepehr_1989,

Thank you!

All right, here we go: your HP EliteDesk 705 G3 SFF with the SSID: 8265 motherboard is the earlier Bristol Ridge–only platform. Meaning, it supports 7th-gen AMD PRO A-series APUs (like the PRO A10-8770 and PRO A12-9800) ONLY and does not support the Ryzen PRO CPUs/APUs, because:

  1. Chipset / BIOS limitations – The 8265 board uses the AMD Promontory A320-like chipset with firmware locked to Bristol Ridge microcode. HP never released BIOS updates adding Raven Ridge (Ryzen 2000G series) AGESA for that SSID.

  2. HP's SKU split – The later SSID 835B motherboard (also in the 705 G3 SFF, but in refreshed configurations) shipped with Ryzen PRO APUs and has the correct AGESA + VRM design for them.

  3. Socket AM4 ≠ guaranteed compatibility – Physically, the socket is the same, but without the correct AGESA code in firmware, the system won’t POST with a Ryzen PRO 2400G.

Practical takeaway:

  • Since your EliteDesk 705 G3 SFF has the SSID: 8265, you are limited to PRO A-series 7th-gen APUs (e.g., PRO A12-9800 is the fastest drop-in).

  • If you want Ryzen PRO support (e.g., PRO 2400G), you'll need a 705 G3 with an SSID: 835B motherboard or move to a later generation (705 G4 or newer).

Kind Regards,
