@JoelA4, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The HP USB-C G5 Dock can sometimes experience connectivity issues when attempting to connect a laptop using a fixed IP address. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues:

Verify Network Configuration:

  • Ensure that the fixed IP address is correctly configured on your laptop.
  • Make sure the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server settings match those of your network.

Check Network Connections:

  • Confirm that all the cables are securely connected between the dock and the network.
  • Ensure that the network hub or switch is turned on and operational.

Review Dock Settings:

  • If possible, check the settings on the HP USB-C G5 Dock to see if it has any configurations or limitations with fixed IP addresses.

IP Address Conflict:

  • Make sure there are no IP address conflicts in your network. Using a fixed IP address that is already in use can cause the dock to fail to connect.

Configure Network Ports:

  • If using a computer running Windows, ensure that the network ports created in the printer or dock driver match the device’s IP address. This configuration can be done by:
    • Right-clicking the device icon and selecting Properties.
    • Comparing the IP address in the Ports tab with the fixed IP address configured on your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Garp, the laptop connected to the network when cable plugged in, so IP etc are correct. When I first tested the Hubs9 I have two of them) it was on a DHCP network  and connected to the internet . Is there anyway that I can access the network settings within the hub?

Hey @JoelA4,

Thank you for your response

The HP USB-C G5 Dock is not a managed network device — it doesn’t have a user-accessible network configuration page like a router or managed switch. It's a USB-C passthrough dock, and the Ethernet port is controlled by an internal Realtek USB-GbE controller. So, there's no internal web UI or dock IP settings to access.

Compare MAC Addresses

Check the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter when the laptop is plugged directly into the cable.

Then check the MAC address when connected via the dock.
If their network uses MAC filtering or IP binding, this would explain why DHCP works (fresh lease) but static fails (conflict with another MAC/IP combo).

Try Alternate Static IP Address
Try a different static IP (one that hasn’t been used before) to rule out any IP conflict.

If the static IP is absolutely required, and none of the above helps, try setting a DHCP reservation on the router/DHCP server for the dock’s MAC address. This way, the dock always gets the same IP without needing static config on the laptop.

I hope this helps.
